Ten Tips for Planning your Wedding Catering

One of the most important ingredients of a good wedding is the food. There are no two ways about it; if the food is bad then guests will talk and the last thing you want is your wedding ending up on social media for all the wrong reasons.

Finding the right wedding caterer should be a huge focus when planning your wedding so we’ve put together 10 Top Tips to getting the food perfect.

Research the Venue
If you want to bring in your own wedding caterer but the venue won’t allow it then don’t book that venue! If the venue will allow it, then make sure you know what electrical facilities etc they offer.

First impressions matter
Meet the caterer face-to- face before you decide to use them. After all, they’re pitching for your business so make them sell themselves!

Create an honest budget
There is no use asking for a £150 per head menu when you can only afford a £30 per head. Do your research and discuss openly and honestly with the caterer, a good one can work wonders with a tight budget.

Remember your guests with special diets
Vegetarians, coeliacs etc. all need to be able to eat! Get them to advise when they RSVP if they have any special dietary requirements and give them something they can enjoy on the big day.

Remember to ask for a tasting
It might cost you a little something but give the caterer a test drive before the wedding. It will help you and your chosen supplier know you have the menu 100% perfect.

Opt for seasonal
Just like flowers, go for ingredients in season to keep the costs down and help minimise any logistical nightmares!

Tie in a theme
Having a theme can stamp your individuality on the wedding and make it that extra-special and unique.

Tot up the numbers
Don’t guess and don’t keep changing your mind. This is what your caterer will use to determine the menu.

The finishing touches
Adding the finishing touches to your wedding really makes a difference to the overall feel; they’re what people notice and what they remember.

Sharing is caring
It’s a well-known saying, and one that is particularly relevant at bigger weddings, “sharing is caring”.

Having large platters or a buffet at your wedding is the perfect solution if you’re struggling to think of how to provide a sit down meal for all of your guests.

Whether the sun is high in the sky or its pouring with rain, Indian food can brighten your day with its exotic blends of spices and sumptuous colours. So what’s stopping you enjoying a sizzling summer’s feast at Itihaas, Birmingham’s favourite Indian restaurant.

Head to the Jewellery Quarter’s finest curry house one evening and order yourself a delicious variety of dishes that will give you that summer feeling. Don’t worry if you’re not sure what to order, we’ve picked out some of the menu’s highlights to get you started.

To begin, why not try the seared scallops presented in their own shell and flavoured with fresh coriander and served with tomato and lemon garlic butter dressing from the Indo-Chinese selection. It’s a real favourite on the menu and a great way to begin your Deli feast.

Then, cleanse your pallet with an ice cold beer and move on to tender pieces of chicken taken straight from the clay oven and blended into a smoked tomato sauce with generous helpings of cream and yoghurt, with a hint of dried fenugreek.

Once you’ve rested and absorbed the ambient surroundings, get a little exotic with fresh coconut and milk chocolate filled delicate samosas flambéed with fresh orange juice, caramelised sugar & Cointreau – you won’t be disappointed!

Foodies’ Feast fires up Birmingham Bloggers’ Appetites

Pulling out all the stops for Brum’s best bloggers, Itihaas welcomed 35 foodies to dine out on their brand-new dishes. The guests sampled Itihaas’ summer sizzlers, which were debuted that evening to resounding praise. With scallops, lobster, tempura, and even Sambuca, making up the impressive menu, Itihaas made sure this was an Indian foodie feast like no other.

The event took place in the restaurant’s Maharaja Suite, allowing the bloggers to mingle amongst history before beginning their feast. Champagne was served on arrival, with canapés to follow. However, these were no ordinary starters: spiced cod tempura, salmon and goats’ cheese samosas, chicken tikka wraps, lamb koftas and papri chaat were all served up, fusing traditional Indian tastes with contemporary flavours.

Of course, no Itihaas meal would be complete without a cocktail or two, and the eclectic menu was painstakingly paired with drinks that complemented these innovative ingredients. Four cocktails entered the mix, each being built around “Poland’s Best-Kept secret”, Torunska Vodka. The spirit’s velvety smooth taste, blended with the delicate flavours of hibiscus, lychee, and cardamom, making for sweet sensations to off set the spice.

Next came the mains. Joining forces with firm favourites butter chicken and nalli gosht, new-comers scallop and prawn masala, and salmon in banana leaf made their mark. However, arguably the star of the show was the lobster panchporan: served in its shell, the curry was fiery and flavoursome, while still letting the lobster take centre stage.

Sealing the deal with dessert, Itihaas’ foodies’ feast showcased four of the best. A creamy chai masala mousse, apple and cinnamon samosas, and pomegranate and pistachio rasmali satisfied the sweet toothed bloggers, not to mention the flaming gulab jammun! Spiked with Sambuca, the gulab jammuns were where sweet-treats met boozy tipples. Finished off with a bright green, crème-de- menthe creation, the aperitifs were not for the faint-hearted.

The foodies’ feast was definitely a feat! If you would like to try the brand-new dishes for yourself, now’s your chance. You can book a table here, or by calling 0121 212 3383. What’s more, Itihaas is teaming up with celebrity chef Hardeep Singh Kohli for an evening of curry and comedy on 16 September. Tickets are already on sale here, so make sure not to miss out.
